About Us:Sri Mukthi Kantha Sametha Kshana Muktheswara Swamy Temple

Sri Mukthi Kantha Sametha Kshana Muktheswara Swamy Temple is located in Muktheswaram Village, East Godavari on the banks of the River Gouthami. It is one of the famous Lord Shiva Temples in Andhra Pradesh.
As per Kshethra Puranam, Once Lord Sri Rama installed so many Shiva Lingas on the banks of River Goutami and while travelling towards the west side of River Gowthami his pushpakam was stopped. He thought that there must be some significant reason behind it and he tried to find out the reason. Then he found an anthill and a woman was doing penance in the anthill. Lord Sri Rama asked about her.
She told that her name is Sramani ,wife of Jayabhadra (Son of Sage Soma Sharma) who lived in Pudrika place of Utkala Kingdom. Once a Gandharva named Vishwanadha approached her with lust for her disguising himself as her husband. Her husband came and saw her with gandharva cursed him into the ashes. Her husband Jayabhadra cursed her cursed to become a Chandala (who deals with disposal of corpses). Then she prayed her father in law ,Saint Soma Sharma. He came to know the truth by his divine vision and informed her to do penance for Lord Shiva on the banks of River Gouthami and he informed her that she will get relief from curse in Treta yuga by the darshanam of Lord Sri Rama.
Then Lord Sri rama prayed Lord Shiva to free her from curse .Lord Shiva appeared and gave mukti to Sramani. Lord Sri Rama installed Shiva Lingam and requested Lord Shiva to give Mukthi for the people who visit the muktheswaram and worship for him in one second. So Shiva Lingam here is known as Kshana Muktheswara Lingam (Kshana = One Second , Mukthi = Liberation)
